Lighting Column Surveys
The progressive nature of corrosion and deterioration in lighting columns means that many can pose a genuine threat to motorists and pedestrians and are in urgent need of assessment and replacement. Common problems that are encountered are cracking at stress concentrations such as weld points or cut out corners and corrosion at the base of the column. Additonally, carbonation and chloride attack can occur with reinforced concrete columns.
Testconsult Limited offer a range of tests and inspection services to assist you in making decisions which are essential for the safety of road users in your area. We use a combination of visual surveying, ultrasonic thickness measurements and LPR rate of corrosion measurements, using our specially designed LICCM system. We can take all of the measurements into account to determine a suitable condition assessment protocol.
Transmission Tower Assessment
Many transmission towers use a buried grillage to both carry compressive load and to resist overturning forces due to wind loading. When protective coating break down due to environmental conditions, towers can suffer sudden and catastrophic failure, leading to power outages. Testconsult can provide survey solutions to assess tower legs in-situ and prioritise the severity of corrosion activity and hence further investigation and remedial work. The BGCMap system, developed by Testconsult Equipment can estimate the rate of corrosion and loss of steel section and will give a precise date and location stamp using in-built GPS transducers.
