Pottery works refurbished in Stoke-on-Trent.
The former Enson ceramics works in Longton is being given a new lease of life. The grade-II listed building, dating back to 1882, has been derelict since the 1970’s and is now due to be regenerated as part of the Centre of Refurbishment Excellence, which will teach construction skills to around 400 student’s each year.
Testconsult were commissioned by Stoke-on-Trent City Council to carry out structural investigations to assess the different characteristics and establish which parts of the building could be saved and incorporated into the design of the new centre.Specialist work undertaken by Testconsult structural investigation teams included:
- Condition surveys to the concrete steel and masonry elements of the building to determine the existing properties of these materials
- Intrusive investigations at various locations to establish specific details of different structural elements
- Materials sampling for laboratory analysis
- Trial pit excavations to investigate the typical foundations of nominated walls, columns and kilns
