Testconsult perform pavement testing ahead of Scottish wind farm development.

During the winter season our pavement testing teams braved the cold weather and descended on remote, wind beaten farm land in the Dumfries and Galloway hills and mountains. Their task was to undertake pavement surveys on existing roads and farm tracks traversing the desolate terrain, to assess the suitability for traffic associated with proposed wind farm developments.

A trailer mounted coring rig was mobilised to extract core samples of the pavement to identify existing construction details and dynamic cone penetrometer testing was then carried out on the underlying material to assess the ground conditions.

At times hampered by local livestock, a falling weight deflectometer was also used to gather data relating to the physical properties of the pavement for use in a final comprehensive interpretive report for our client.
